The power of one change | Also: sale ends Wedsnesday!

Hi there Thinking Doers!

Firstly, a quick heads up that our 25% off sale for the online course ends on Wednesday. This is a bonus reminder about that for people who are glad for bonus reminders!!

I've also just built a page with more details on online coaching, and now have 10 sessions a week available.

If you're interested in stepping back from the trails to work on your MTB mindset for next time your on the trails, or expand on this with strategies for managing stress and pressure in life off the bike, or learn more about what works for your unique brain and body (including autistic and ADHD folk), please get in touch!

All the marketing advice in the world says I should focus the message on only one of these things. But I honestly believe they all weave together. What we learn through biking translates to our work lives. What we learn about our own strengths and styles translates to everything!

Sessions can be individual or for up to 4 people if you want to split costs and learn from each other - check out the FAQ on the coaching page.

Having poured a stack of words into the coaching page over the last week, I confess to being a bit low on extra words for this newsletter. But something I do want to write about is what a happy experience I had when a friend loaned me her e-bike a week and a bit ago - A Trek Fuel EXe. (Thanks beyond words, Laura Renshaw!)

Last time I tried an e-bike was not long after they'd been invented. With a heap of improvements in tech since then, I felt like me, and rode like me, but like when I was fitter. But what I loved just as much was the bigger, burlier bike factor, and what the more stable frame geometry allowed that my down-country bike needs more finessing to achieve.

New lines opened up, new sensations came with them, a new appreciation of bikes and places emerged, all the while feeling so chuffed to have a friend that would offer up her bike for a loan and make this experience possible.

At the heart of everything I do with Intelligent Action is the idea that what we think isn't just something that happens in a brain, but something that happens in a body, in a place, with tools and technology, with other people, and in different contexts. Change one element and you'll impact the others.

In this case, it wasn't (just) the bike that was transformative, it was the actions of a friend. Someone who knew I'd been feeling like rubbish lately after some immune system challenges, but also knew how much a good bike ride with some lovely people could help with that. As my body moved and conversations flowed, thoughts shifted, and a sense of fun and play returned that carried into life off the bike as well.

I hope that some kind of passion or hobby does this regularly for you too. If it doesn't, see how changing up one element of what you do shakes up some of the others!

This week on the internet

'Young people' reflect on mobile phone use, what it's eneabled in positive ways, and what they'd do differently now that they're less young than they were. An interesting read in The Guardian that is sure to prompt some useful reflection in people old enough to talk about what young people are up to!

Like what I'm doing? Want to help it grow?

Three ways you can support Intelligent Action:

  • Fill my work calendar! Book a Mind Skills for Mountain Bikers online course, coaching session, or talk to me about running a workshop.
